Salima Mukansanga, the primary feminine referee to officiate at an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) match, has introduced her retirement from soccer refereeing.
Mukansanga, 36, was born in Rwanda and started her journey as a FIFA-listed referee in 2012. She made historical past in 2022 when she turned the primary girl to officiate at an AFCON sport throughout the event held in Cameroon. She led an all-female officiating staff that included Fatiha Jermoumi (Morocco), Carine Atemzabong (Cameroon), and Bouchra Karboubi (Morocco), who served because the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
