On October 26, 2024, the Director of Sports, Mr. Aroun Korgi, launched the Sierra Leone Masters Athletic (SLMA) on behalf of the Minister of Sports at Montana Car Park, Lumley Beach, Freetown.
The SLMA, established in December 2023 with the motto “Age Is Just A Number,” goals to advertise health and aggressive athletics for people aged 35 and above.
SLMA President, Mr. Aiah Bockarie, credited the affiliation’s founding to former athlete Jimmy Thoronka. He emphasised that SLMA focuses on lively growing older, social integration, and offering a platform for older athletes. Since its institution, SLMA has competed internationally, successful medals on the Albania Field Masters Championship, and is registered with nationwide and worldwide sports activities organizations, together with the National Sports Association of Sierra Leone and World Masters. Regional coordinators have been appointed to handle SLMA actions throughout Sierra Leone.
